What is the difference between crossfit and bootcamp




















The goal of CrossFit is NOT to be specialized but to attain physical competency in all areas, including power, speed, cardiovascular fitness, flexibility, stamina, and strength. CrossFit offers trainers specialty courses in Olympic lifting, Strongman, gymnastics, kids fitness, pregnancy fitness among others. CrossFit is extremely member oriented, and some may say cultish, although we disagree. It is very easy to build friendships and find a sense of community at the box. The timing is way more flexible.

CrossFit uses barbells. It can because there is not an entire class doing the same exercise at the same time. Everyone at the box more or less rotates through the WoD. The WoD is the same for all boxes on any given day. Everyone from Atlanta to LA has a chalkboard or whiteboard with the WoD written on it, which incidentally can also be found here.

CrossFit is done in a bare bones type gym called a box, which could have been a traditional gym in a past life. They can also be old garages or warehouse space, converted into a box. CrossFit can be done at home.

The creator of CrossFit himself has a lengthy newsletter detailing what is needed to set up a CrossFit Gym. As the ball reaches waist height release it aggressively slamming it into the ground. Quickly catch the medicine ball as it bounces off of the ground, and in the same movement pattern return the ball back to overhead position. Continue traveling to the other side and repeat. Utilizing a set of stairs sprint upward keeping your toes up, driving your knees upward as high as possible.

Keep your chest over your thighs and your arms driving forward and back at 90 degrees as your foot strikes every other stair. Finish to the top and walk down under control. If using a treadmill, set it to 10—12 degrees and sprint at a speed where you can sustain proper running mechanics and the belt is not dictating your running cycle.

Stand tall with your feet hip width with your sandbag in rack position resting across the front of your shoulders and across your chest, keeping your elbows up in front of you slightly lower than shoulder height.

Slightly bend your knees and immediately drive up through your hips quickly pressing the sandbag overhead. As you lock out and gain stability rerack the sandbag absorbing it by softening your knees. Start in lunge position with your right foot forward, your left foot back, and your knees at 90 degrees.

With arms behind you drive both feet into the ground throwing both arms forward and jump as high as possible. As you reach your highest point scissor your foot so your right foot is now behind you and your left foot in front.

Land in a lunge position returning your arms behind you. Start in pushup position making sure your core is engaged and your back is flat. But, this raises the question, Barry's Bootcamp vs.

Although Barry's Bootcamp contains more gym equipment and machinery, there won't be any compound lifts. Again, you'll need to head over to CrossFit if you want to practice your deadlifts, squats, and bench press. Yes, boot camp can be considered HIIT to a certain extent. Intense training with short intervals can form part of your boot camp workout, but you'll also perform strength exercises with longer breaks.

Boot camp, therefore, isn't just 'HIIT'; it's a mixture of exercise techniques. Yes, boot camp can help you build some lean muscle depending on the time frame. Theoretically, lifters see 'new' muscle after 6 weeks of training, so the boot camp should extend for a few weeks in order to see results.

However, it also tones your body, so you will see better muscle definition of what you already have. Bodybuilders don't necessarily hate CrossFit; it just conflicts with the required training needed to be a bodybuilder. CrossFit bases a lot of focus on functional fitness and full-body workouts, whereas a bodybuilding routine will split workouts into different body parts for each day.

CrossFit implements both compound exercises and Olympic lifts. Although it is similar to circuit training where you would move on to another exercise, CrossFit also offers short breaks in between. Circuit training, on the other hand, is more of a bodyweight training style without breaks and constant rotation.
